Credit Unions blossomed this past weekend at the Credit Union Cherry Blossom event on April 6th and April 7th in Washington D.C.
For runners both elite and amateur, the Credit Union Cherry Blossom marks the beginning of the Spring season rather than the date on the calendar. The event also coincides with the Cherry Blossom Festival, a high point of the Washington D.C’s tourist season, when magnolias, forsythia and cherry blossoms bloom along the thoroughfares bordering the Potomac River.
The two-day event featuring 10 mile, 5K, and Kids Run races, brought together credit unions from across the U.S. with the common purpose of fundraising on behalf of children in need. The proceeds from the Credit Union Cherry Blossom provides support to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
The Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) is a non-profit international organization that assists in the treatment of millions of children in the U.S. and Canada.
The title sponsor of the event was Credit Union Miracle Day (CUMD), a collection of credit unions, CUSO’s, credit union suppliers, and other supporters. Since CUMD became the event sponsor in 2002, over $8 million has been donated to the Children’s Miracle Network.
