LAFCU’s Innovation For Education
LANSING, Mich. — LAFCU is encouraging all K-12 schools in Michigan to submit a video application by April 30 for a chance to win $10K to make necessary improvements to their school. As part of its newly established Innovation for Education Grant, the Michigan-based credit union will award one Michigan K-12 school with $10K to do any upgrades of their choice, ranging from the addition of a school garden or sensory room to purchasing updated equipment or flexible seating options.
“This grant could be used for anything, including new gym, library or music equipment, sensory supplies, or upgraded devices,” said Shelia Scott, LAFCU’s community financial education and business development officer. “LAFCU understands the challenges schools face in funding, so our goal is not only to provide financial aid but also to help establish a thriving environment in which students and teachers feel more comfortable and excited to attend school daily.”
To be eligible for the Innovation for Education Grant, all applicants must be a K-12 school in Michigan, submit an online application atwww.lafcu.com/life, and record a brief, 3-to-5-minute video that discusses how the funds would be used in their school and how the update(s) would positively impact their students and staff. The winner will be chosen May 15, 2024.
Applications can be submitted by teachers, administrators, parent-teacher organizations, and associations, as well as student councils and clubs. Entrants are not required to be LAFCU members, but they must be Michigan residents and a teacher or administrator during the 2023-2024 school year at a 2 Michigan K-12 school. If students are featured in the submission video, please acquire parent permission as the winning video could be shared publicly.
LAFCU’s Innovation for Education Grant is powered by its Pathway to Financial Transformation initiative, the credit union’s financial education program. LAFCU understands the importance of education and is committed to giving back to the communities it serves. As a result, LAFCU awards tens of thousands of dollars annually, ranging from Michigan teachers who need assistance to purchase classroom materials to those looking to repay debts
