Share Your CU Story!!
According to the Jan. 2023 joint report of the Filene Institute and TruStage, at the end of 2021 there were over 3,800 small credit unions with less than $250 million in assets. This number represented more than 3/4’s of all credit unions.
The report further stated that ”these small credit unions provide critical infrastructure for all kinds of communities, but especially small or underserved communities with few other banking options.”
Furthermore, ”between 2005 and 2021, the highest-performing credit unions in terms of member acquisition with less than $250M in assets actually outperformed the industry at large in asset, loan, and member growth.”
Conclusion: “Small credit unions thrive when they are confident in their identity, share their story widely and encourage everyone who values them—from the chair of the board to the newest member—to also tell that story.”
